When we think of a classroom, we generally think of the traditional set up of four walls, desks neatly lined up or in small groups, a teacher's desk in a prominent position and a whiteboard at the front of the room. Fortunately this doesn't have to be the case, and in actual fact shouldn't be! Classrooms need to be flexible spaces that have the ability to adapt to the learning requirements of teachers, students and subject matter. Spaces that take into consideration student learning styles, incorporate design principles and elements preferred by students rather than adults and that are efficiently manged provide an environment where students can actively engage in learning.
